What is CELPIP?

The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is an English language assessment tool that including four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. The test is administered by the Paragon Testing Enterprises is a private subsidiary of The University of British Columbia (UBC) that was incorporated in 2009 to commercialize the University’s English language proficiency tests.

Paragon’s mission is to make its English language proficiency tests the tests of choice for those wishing to immigrate to Canada, become Canadian citizens, or study in Canada at all levels. To achieve this mission, Paragon conducts ongoing test research in collaboration with internationally recognized scholars at Canada’s leading universities. This test research program ensures the highest quality tests, and enables Paragon to compete with large international testing agencies.[1]

Why CELPIP?

CELPIP-General is applicable designed for those who are interested to immigrate to Canada. As you know, English test is required for the proof of English proficiency when you are applying for permanent resident status in Canada under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), the Start-Visa Program, and various Provincial Nominee Programs, or for employment. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has two approved English language tests: CELPIP-General or General Test from the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

In addition, CELPIP-General (LS) is applicable for people who need proof of listening and speaking skills for Canadian citizenship. The CELPIP-General LS test is accepted by IRCC as one of only two English languages ​​designated for Canadian citizenship.[2]
